We also found ourselves laughing, not with glee or in jest, but because of the dark and curious parallels that the current Legg retrospective proposals have thrown into stark relief.

The current matter suggests, that the contractor campaigners have a benefactor in their plight. It will either do them a great deal of good, or their situation will be left to fester by benign neglect. I fear it may be the latter, in view of the political leaders' public acquiescence. Their legal arguments, after all, would equate with those for S58

The issue the irate MP's are facing is one of rule making where there weren't any written and defined regulations before. Call it a loophole. It was all left to practice, discretion and discreet approval, that is, except those articles detailed on the John Lewis List.

Now, I am not favouring any of this; especially when I am required to make 240 miles round trip to a hospital that serves my region, from which £8 is deducted from the underpaid pre-determined mileage calculation, there is no allowance for subsistence. If I have an appointment before 010.30, (used to be 11am) accommodation for the night would be reimbursed at £27. At one time, an escort, if deemed necessary, would also be given the accommodation allowance, not now.

If I lived within reach of the services of this hospital, all I would pay is a bus or train fare! This is a sick clawback. If I have to seek a specialism even further away because the service is not available at the regional hospital, (it happens) obtaining some recompense for the *pleasure*, is a nightmare.

So, no, I have no major sympathies with any of our national representatives, those who have played the system to the hilt and got payments approved because of the nebulous nature of the expenses discretion.

On the other hand, we, Joe Public, have something to answer for, in what we accept as appropriate remuneration for parliamentarians. That is a whole other topic though definitely not unrelated.
'Leverage' is another one that I think is definitely a misnomer, purposely coined to 'confuddle' methinks.

Stinky assets I don't mind. I heard a couple of Peston's explanatory discussions in which he used the description. I really do think the vocabulary, in this case, does convey exactly what the assets are in the present hot financial climate. They do metaphorically stink. Personally, I think 'toxic' is too much of refinement, one which reduces the impact (probably on purpose) of the not just risky, but downright dangerous financial games the banking and financial industry have indulged in. It is time, in my view, that some of this veiling terminology was revised.

I don't see the language of the analysis as a dumbing down this time, I hear something that really does convey a blunt clear description and real message. It's a bit of plain speaking, at last.

In response to:Poetry - please!

Thanks - it was a real pleasure - both to listen to, and to be able to share with blog chums.

In response to:Poetry - please!

Me too - I think the term is apt, and take lots of them.
