PSB - wots that then?

by loiswakeman @ 10/04/2008 - 11:41:53

OFCOM has just released a report considering the future of public service broadcasting in the UK, and the possibility of giving some of the licence fee to commercial TV to make more of it.

What PSB, I ask? Apart from the odd Attenborough documentary here and there, the Beeb and its "competitors" are stuffed with lifestyle documentaries (100 best plastic surgery fiascos), reality TV (Celebrity slipping in pig muck), wobblycam dumbed down "science" programs (Violent volcanoes - aren't they exciting) and news so vapid that a 6 year old could better analyse the stories (see below for an example).

Why does my licence fee subsidise a weekly programme that is nothing more than a free plug for Andrew Lloyd Webber, for example? That's PSB? I think not. And Kevin Spacey agrees with me.

Hmmmm, Kevin does have a good point eh!

Those "looking for....." Saturday night programmes are a tad boring!

I have just invented a new game: inventing the worst reality TV show, documentary, or panel game. My contribution is a makeover show with the catch all title of 'Building a Barbecue for the Dog' - I leave you to choose whether it is the dog who is barbecued or who eats the barbecue.

I vote for the dog's survival - and hope he recruits a pack of feral rabid chums who savage the presenter. The presenter will, of course, be a refugee from Children's TV who was caught snorting coke with a supermodel and is reduced to appearances on daytime programmes on Channel 5

Did one of the suermodels accuse him of sexual assault? No? I suppose if she had, he would be reduced to appearances on a shopping channel.

I'm sure you can think or a worse daytime show.

really resenting TV license fee more and more. The two BBC channels I have a pile of poo, and why are we paying towards channels we then have to pay to watch?

The only channels I watch regularly are 4 and 5 nowadays, the BBC is too archaic and the news is so informal its a joke!

Did you ever watch Broken News? What is so ironic is that the real news has got more and more like its parody.

My solution is not to "go digital" as they keep urging us, and stop paying the licence fee. Only 1 year, 21 days to go til our transmitter is switched off. Yippee!
